Women are hard-working, empathic, highly-qualified and bold; such qualities as caution and tenacity in pursuing goals make them successful also in more challenging times on the market, says Marta Kulik, HR Business Partner at Cresa Poland.

The real estate sector is becoming an increasingly attractive work environment for women, giving them opportunities to draw on their organisational skills and negotiation expertise. Determination and diligence make them great leaders. Women are practical and demanding and communicate their expectations clearly, but if necessary they will show empathy, be willing to help and come together to look for solutions. Meanwhile, the feeling of safety and being supported has become extremely important across teams, especially during the pandemic.

There are also more and more female advisors in real estate. No wonder – this job is very dynamic and negotiations are sometimes tough. Women, however, focus on building relationships and long-term strategies. They are patient, able to wait and work hard to make sure that both parties are happy with the contract they sign.

Women also hold positions as financial officers of some real estate development, construction and advisory companies. They are well-organized, flexible and think strategically. On the one hand, they rely on figures in whatever they do, but on the other hand they have to pursue long-term goals of their organizations and provide compelling reasons for their decisions to board directors. They also excel at real estate valuation where precision, attention to detail and matter-of-factness are what really counts. And women are in fact like this.

Employers who appreciate the role of women have undoubtedly improved their chances in the fight for talent. Ensuring equity of treatment is good for all organizations. To create favourable growth opportunities for employees, some companies work towards achieving work-life balance which also naturally includes parenthood. We, as a society, still have a lot to do in this area, but it is optimistic that more and more employers, including Cresa Poland, are taking steps to ensure that working parents successfully reconcile work with child care. Maternity leave is not an obstacle, but just a temporary break in a professional career after which women return to work reinvigorated.
